Anthony Joshua’s family questions if driver’s trial over crash is ‘worth it’

⚠️ When tragedy strikes, the questions are heavier than the headlines ⚠️

The family of boxer Anthony Joshua is raising concerns over the ongoing trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the December 29, 2025 crash that claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.

Kayode, 46, was driving the former two-time heavyweight champion and his friends in a Lexus SUV when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck. The crash reportedly involved excessive speed and a burst tyre, according to preliminary investigations by Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).

Appearing in court in Sagamu, Ogun State, Kayode faces multiple charges, including reckless driving and driving without a license. However, the judge adjourned the case to February 25 after the prosecution requested a delay.

Reacting to the proceedings, Anthony Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, questioned the purpose of the trial. “We are very lucky that our son didn’t die. But taking this man to court…we don’t see any reason for it. Accidents can happen anywhere in the world,” he said. He added that while public opinion suggests the driver must be prosecuted, the family is not convinced of its necessity.

The crash has left the boxing community and the nation in shock, and Joshua’s family seems torn between seeking justice and accepting the tragedy as an accident.

Sometimes, as Adedamola Joshua put it, the law moves slowly, but grief moves faster, leaving families to weigh justice against closure.
