Funke Akindele’s “Behind the Scenes” Just Made Nollywood History with ₦2 Billion Box Office
Funke Akindele is once again rewriting the rules of Nollywood.
Her latest film, “Behind the Scenes,” has officially crossed ₦2 billion at the box office, becoming the first Nollywood movie in history to achieve the milestone. The record was confirmed on January 12, 2026, cementing the film as the highest-grossing Nollywood title of all time across Africa, the UK, and Ireland.
A Historic Win for Nollywood

With this achievement, Funke Akindele now holds an unprecedented record — three consecutive years as the number-one filmmaker at the African box office. She is currently recognised as West Africa’s highest-grossing filmmaker, writer, director, and producer of all time.
This milestone follows the success of A Tribe Called Judah, which previously crossed ₦1 billion, showing a clear upward trajectory in audience trust and box office dominance.

Funke Akindele Reacts
Reflecting on the achievement, Funke Akindele shared on Instagram:
“Records are milestones, not the mission. From A Tribe Called Judah grossing ₦1B to Behind the Scenescrossing ₦2B and still counting, this is God in motion… Serve the story, respect the audience, refine the craft, and let the work earn its applause.”
A New Era for Nigerian Cinema
With Behind the Scenes, Nollywood has not only broken financial ceilings but also reinforced its global relevance. Funke Akindele’s latest success signals a new era where Nigerian stories are not just being told — they are dominating the box office.
