In a move that’s set to impact thousands of prospective UK visa applicants, the British government has announced a significant increase in financial requirements for various visa categories, effective 2025. The changes are aimed at reflecting the rising living costs in the UK.

Student Visa Requirements:

  • London-based students must now demonstrate £1,400 per month for living costs (up from £1,334) for a nine-month period.
  • Students outside London must show £1,100 per month (up from £1,023) for a nine-month period.
  • Applicants must also provide proof of the first year’s course fees.

Visa Fee Hikes:

  • Standard student visa fee: £510 (up from £490)
  • Tourist visa fee: £120 (up from £115)

Work Visa Requirements:

  • Skilled Worker Visa applicants: £1,270 (unless employer certifies support)
  • Global Talent Visa applicants: exempt from specific thresholds, but must cover initial living costs
  • Health and Care Worker Visa applicants: exempt with employer sponsorship
  • Tourist visa applicants: must prove sufficient funds for all trip expenses

Family Visa Requirements:

  • Combined annual income: at least £29,000
  • Additional requirements:
    • £3,800 for the first child
    • £2,400 for each additional child
