Nigerian man who moved to the UK few years ago admits murd£r of 23-year-old British woman

A tragic chapter has unfolded in Nottingham, UK, as Adedapo Adegbola, a Nigerian man who relocated to the UK in 2022, admitted to the murder of 23-year-old Stephanie Irons, a former colleague with whom he had a brief relationship.

Stephanie’s lifeless body was discovered on October 21, 2025, after emergency services were called to her address on Westdale Lane West, Mapperley. Police described the victim as a “caring and compassionate young woman” whose life was cut short in horrific circumstances.

During a brief court appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on January 26, 2026, the 40-year-old Adegbola admitted a single charge of murder. Judge Nirmal Shant KC confirmed that he would face a mandatory life sentence, with the only question being the minimum term. Sentencing has been scheduled for February 5, 2026.

Police investigations revealed chilling details:

  • Adegbola fatally wounded Stephanie after visiting her home following the end of their brief relationship.

  • Blood-stained trainers and a jumper were left on the streets as he fled, travelling through Mansfield, Worksop, Sheffield, and Hull before returning to Nottingham to surrender himself.

  • He made no attempt to call for help or preserve the victim’s life, showing disregard only for escaping and destroying evidence.

Detective Inspector Stuart Barson commented:

“This is a tragic case in which a caring and compassionate young woman was taken away in horrific circumstances. I want to thank Miss Irons’ family for the incredible strength they have shown through this process. I hope that this outcome assists them in coming to terms with such a dreadful loss.”

Stephanie’s family also released a heartfelt tribute, describing her as “a bright young star taken too soon”, “beautiful, loving, and caring”, who always had compassion for others and wore her heart on her sleeve.

The courtroom now awaits Adegbola’s sentencing, as the community continues to mourn the loss of a life full of promise and love, snatched away in a moment of unthinkable violence.
