Nigerian student jailed for using fake ID to work in UK hospitals without medical training
A Nigerian student based in the United Kingdom has landed in serious trouble after being caught working in UK hospitals with forged identification — despite having zero medical training.
The woman, 30-year-old Oluwabunmu Adeleiyi, was living in Cardiff on a student visa when she fraudulently secured jobs as a healthcare support worker in NHS facilities, including Neath Port Talbot Hospital and Caswell Clinic in Bridgend.
According to proceedings at Cardiff Crown Court, Adeleiyi did not act alone. She allegedly worked alongside two accomplices, sharing fake ID cards to book hospital shifts through employment agencies.
🚨 How the scam worked
-
Fake IDs were used repeatedly
-
Shifts were booked via agencies
-
The NHS was billed about £16,000 monthly
The fraud unraveled when hospital staff noticed irregular details on her ID card after a night shift and raised the alarm.
Further investigations revealed disturbing findings:
⚠️ Adeleiyi reportedly accessed confidential patient records
⚠️ She locked restricted wards
⚠️ She had no training in patient restraint or clinical care
Health officials told the court her actions could have caused “catastrophic consequences” for vulnerable patients.
⚖️ Court Verdict
Adeleiyi pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud by false representation.
She was handed 10 months’ imprisonment on each count, to run concurrently — suspended for two years.
Additionally, the court ordered her to complete 100 hours of unpaid community service.
The case has sparked fresh concerns about identity fraud, hospital staffing checks, and patient safety within the NHS.
