Super Eagles Fly Past Algeria to Reach AFCON 2025 Semi-Finals
Nigeria are officially through.
The Super Eagles booked their place in the AFCON 2025 semi-finals after a composed 2–0 victory over Algeria, continuing a strong tournament run and setting up a mouth-watering clash with hosts Morocco.
It wasn’t flashy — it was efficient, controlled, and decisive.
Second-Half Nigeria Was the Difference
After a goalless first half, Nigeria returned from the break with clear intent — and the game shifted almost immediately.
Just two minutes into the second half, Victor Osimhen rose to meet a long cross from Bruno Onyemaechi, guiding the ball home to give Nigeria the lead.
From there, the Super Eagles never looked back.
Osimhen Leads, Adams Finishes
Ten minutes later, Osimhen turned provider.
The Napoli striker slipped a perfectly weighted pass into the box for Akor Adams, who showed composure beyond his years — rounding goalkeeper Luca Zidane before slotting into an empty net.
Clinical. Calm. Game over.
Algeria Shut Out
Algeria struggled to regain control, particularly in midfield, where Nigeria’s pressing repeatedly forced turnovers.
-
Riyad Mahrez was kept quiet
-
Possession was lost under pressure
-
Frustration showed, with several bookings
Despite some first-half chances, Algeria failed to register a clear scoring opportunity as Nigeria dictated the tempo deep into stoppage time.
Another Step Toward History
The win sends Nigeria into the last four, while Algeria bow out at the quarter-final stage once again.
For the Super Eagles, the momentum is real. The belief is growing. And the dream of a first AFCON title since 2013 is now just two games away.
Next Up: Morocco 🇲🇦
