Burna Boy Briefly Held at Moroccan Airport Over Jewellery Before AFCON Fan Zone Concert
Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy faced a minor hiccup upon arriving in Morocco ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert in Rabat.
According to CAF President Patrice Motsepe, customs officials briefly stopped the singer after noticing his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery, prompting intervention from officials to resolve the situation.
“Recently I was called that I need to intervene because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened and it was resolved,” Motsepe revealed at a press conference.
The incident did not affect his performance. Burna Boy took the stage as planned on January 16, headlining the concert alongside Ghanaian artist Stonebwoy and Moroccan acts Stormy and Jaylann.
The episode served as a reminder that even international stars can face unexpected challenges when traveling — but Burna Boy’s show went on without a hitch.
