From Corby to First-Class Glory: Nigerian Sisters Stephanie and Isabel Offor Make History in the UK

Nigerian sisters Stephanie and Isabel Offor, based in Corby, United Kingdom, have achieved what many would call an incredibly rare academic double feat, both graduating with First-Class Honours in the same year, in two of the toughest courses.

Who Are The Offor Sisters?

Stephanie Offor graduated from the University of Leicester with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Even before her graduation, she was already standing out she won the 2025 Goldsmith Prize for her outstanding performance during her placement year.

Her brilliance has already opened doors. She is set to begin her career as a Manufacturing Engineer at Caterpillar, the world’s largest manufacturer of construction and mining equipment.

Her younger sister, Isabel Offor, graduated from Nottingham Trent University’s Faculty of Law and Business. In a cohort of 47 students, only 11 made First-Class and Isabel was one of them.

Two sisters. Two different rigorous fields:  Engineering and Law. One result: First-Class.

Why This Achievement Is So Rare

According to recent UK data, First-Class degrees are getting harder to get. The rate dropped to 28.8% in 2023/24 from 37.7% in 2020/21.

That makes the Offor sisters’ achievement even more special.

Speaking at their celebration, Ogo Ogbata, Director at Creativity and Sense Consulting, said:

“Having two sisters graduate with First-Class Honours in entirely different, rigorous disciplines — Mechanical Engineering and Law with Business — is an incredibly rare academic double feat. Their success speaks of resilience, sacrifice, and the power of believing that dreams can be reached.”

A Family’s Pride, A Community’s Joy

For their father, Mr. Chidi Offor, the news felt surreal at first. He had been told they were on track to achieve this, but it was only when letters arrived from the universities that the moment became real.

Their mother, Mrs. Oluchi Offor, could not hide her joy, saying her daughters had given her “wings to fly.”

The achievement has become more than a family celebration. It has become a moment of pride for church families, cultural groups, and wider Nigerian communities in both the UK and Nigeria who watched them grow.

What’s Next For The Sisters?

Stephanie is preparing to kick off her engineering career at Caterpillar, while Isabel is looking ahead to the next chapter in law and business.

Isabel also left a powerful message for young Nigerians everywhere:

“Dream boldly, work hard and never allow anyone to make you feel inadequate.”
