Super Eagles seek to rekindle World Cup hopes in Kigali

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are on the cusp of a make-or-break moment in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. With only three points from four games, the team desperately needs a win against Rwanda in Kigali to rekindle their hopes of making it to the global showpiece.

The stakes are high, and the team is aware of the daunting task ahead. Captain William Troost-Ekong has rallied his troops, saying, “We have no other option than to get the three points here in Kigali.”

Coach Eric Chelle has also emphasized the importance of this encounter, promising to return the Super Eagles to an attacking style of football. “They need to play high-pressure football. We need to work harder and play high-pressure football,” he said.

The team’s latest talent, Papa Daniel Mustapha, is eager to make his mark on the global stage. “If I get a chance, I’ll be happy, and I’ll show Nigeria and the world who I am and what I can do,” he said.

Ademola Lookman, the African Footballer of the Year, has also warned that Rwanda will not be an easy opponent. “We know Rwanda is a good team, we know about their quality, but at the end of the day, we need to be focusing on ourselves and try to bring the game to them,” he said.

With the Federal Government mobilizing 500 Nigerians in Rwanda to support the team, the Super Eagles are ready to put up a fight. Will they be able to revive their 2026 World Cup hopes in Kigali? Only time will tell.
