18-Year-Old British-Nigerian Abiola Abidoye Scores UK’s Highest A-Level Grade in Law, Earns Spot at Imperial College London
When 18-year-old Abiola Abidoye, a British-Nigerian student from Ipswich, England, received his A-level results this summer, he didn’t just make his parents proud — he made history.
Abiola scored an outstanding 224 out of 240 marks in Law, officially earning the highest Law A-level grade in the entire United Kingdom in 2025. His remarkable achievement has not only inspired the Nigerian and wider African diaspora community, but also earned him a place at Imperial College London, one of the world’s most prestigious universities.
A Scholar with Many Talents
Born to Nigerian parents, Abiola studied Maths, Further Maths, Law, and Physics at One Sixth Form College (One Sixth) in Ipswich. While he excelled across the board, achieving A*s in all four subjects, it was his performance in Law that stunned both peers and teachers.
What makes his achievement even more inspiring is that Abiola doesn’t see himself as a “natural lawyer.” Instead, he describes himself as “more of a numbers person.” Yet his passion for law pushed him to aim higher:
“I am very passionate about different types of law, even some that we didn’t do, like human rights, just any law I can get myself into. It was just a fun lesson I wanted to do. I wasn’t expecting to do so well in it,” Abiola told reporters.
The Work Behind the Glory
Success didn’t come easy. Abiola admits that he sacrificed sleep, comfort, and leisure to achieve his goals.
“I put in an immense amount of work into this. I stayed up very late studying and put a lot of pressure on myself to try and achieve it. It was very difficult, but I’m pretty happy. The teachers at One Sixth Form College were wonderful and helped me a lot,” he said.
His Law results came in first — and when he discovered he had achieved the highest grade in the country, his confidence soared while waiting for his other subjects.
Choosing a Different Path: From Law to Mathematics
Despite his historic Law result, Abiola has chosen to pursue Mathematics at Imperial College London for his undergraduate degree. His decision reflects a passion for numbers and long-term goals in banking and finance, fields where his unique combination of mathematical ability, logical reasoning, and legal knowledge will give him an edge.
“I see myself building a career in banking or finance. I love numbers and analysis, and I believe my legal training will help me approach problems differently,” Abiola explained.
