Done Deal: Super Eagles forward Salim Fago Lawal completes move to Czech Viktoria Plzen

Super Eagles forward Salim Fago Lawal has officially sealed a move to Czech First Division side Viktoria Plzen, marking a major step forward in his European career.

Three-and-a-half-year contract confirmed

The 23-year-old attacker joined Viktoria Plzen on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Croatian club NK Istra, following an impressive run of form in the Croatian league.

During his time at NK Istra, Lawal scored 15 goals and provided two assists, performances that caught the attention of several European clubs before Plzen moved decisively to secure his signature.

Lawal reacts: “This is a big step forward for my career”

Speaking to Viktoria Plzen’s official website, Lawal expressed excitement about the move and confidence in his readiness.

“I know Viktoria primarily from their performances in European competitions, where the club has achieved great results over the years. This offer really interested me and I see it as a step forward in my career,” he said.

The Super Eagles forward added that his recent national team duties have prepared him well for the challenge ahead.

“Given that I was with the national team at the African Nations Cup, I feel well prepared and ready to be fully available to the coaches immediately. I’m looking forward to my first training session and getting to know my new teammates.”

Plzen sporting director explains why Lawal was signed

Viktoria Plzen sporting director Martin Vozábal also shared insight into the club’s decision to bring in the Nigerian attacker.

“After Rafiu Durosinmi left, we wanted to increase competition in our attack. Salim Fago Lawal fits exactly what we were looking for,” Vozábal said.

He described Lawal as a fast, versatile forward capable of playing both as a striker and on the wings, adding that the club had closely monitored him during his time in Croatia.

“We’re pleased the transfer is complete and that we can count on him ahead of the league restart this weekend.”

Another Super Eagles star takes a step up in Europe

Lawal’s move to Viktoria Plzen adds to the growing list of Nigerian players making significant strides across Europe, with the Czech club hoping his pace, goals, and versatility will boost their domestic and continental ambitions.
